A little about me...

ShellNova

That's me Nai...

Hello there, I’m Michelle Fullerton, the artist behind ShellNova. I’m a self-taught painter and creative from Belfast, Ireland and I’m constantly creating, exploring, and discovering new ways to express myself.

I take inspiration from literally everywhere: the insane beauty of Ireland, the awe of the ocean, animals, and the mystery of the cosmos. I also am inspired and love travelling around Ireland in my wee red Berlingo van - Shelly Mobile (my fav), soaking up the Irish land, sea, and stars, and turning those moments into paintings, resin art, jewellery, and prints. I also draw inspiration from the art of life itself - movies, drama, dance, movement, and everything that feeds the soul.

Creating is more than a hobby for me - it’s my therapy, my passion, and the way I connect with others.

My art is deeply shaped by the mystery of life, Ireland and the cosmos. A lot of my work begins as doodles drawn in the moment, often while listening to voices like Alan Watts and Ram Dass - who I discovered during Covid and who continue to inspire me. My pieces reflect life, feelings, and emotions, but they’re also bigger than that. To me, my art is the cosmos. It isn’t just one thing; it is a wee bit of everything! That’s the real beauty of it.

The Story Behind ShellNova...

ShellNova itself was born from a wee moment of cosmic serendipity. Just after my birthday in late 2021, a new star - SN 2021aefx, a supernova - was discovered. A supernova happens when a star’s life comes to an end and it lights up the sky - it’s the end of one thing and the start of another.

For me, it felt like a sign from the universe to embrace change and take a leap of faith with my art. That’s how the name came about: “Nova” for the stars and the mystery of the cosmos that inspire me, and “Shell” for both my nickname and the shells I’ve always collected along Ireland’s shores.

In 2025, I made a brave decision to take this seriously as my path. I stepped away from an emotionally exhausting job and the noise that didn’t feed my soul, permitting myself to believe that ShellNova could be more than a hobby.

Now, as I look toward 2026, things feel steadier, clearer, and more intentional. I’ve taken on a part-time job that supports me without consuming me, creating space to keep building what matters. ShellNova is still my adventure - my creative work, my expression, and my way of showing up in the world on my own terms. I’m at home with family, travelling in my wee red Berlingo, surrounded by paint, resin, shells, and ideas - grounded enough to feel safe and free enough to dream bigger.

This next chapter isn’t about escaping anymore; it’s about expanding. It’s about patience, consistency, and trusting that small, intentional steps can carry me a long way. In 2026, I’m choosing adventure with stability, creativity with care, and ambition without burnout. I’m letting ShellNova grow at its own rhythm, shaped by curiosity, craft, and courage. Wherever this road leads, I’m committed to walking it honestly - learning as I go, staying close to what inspires me, and building a life that feels as good on the inside as it looks from the outside.

Family and Roots...

Art has always been part of my life. My mum has a love for art too - she’s amazing at it - and she gave me the grace and encouragement to practise (shout out to my wee mummy, Donna!). My family means everything to me. Big thanks to my papa, Mick, for providing the space and support that’s allowed me the freedom to follow my dream of making art. BLESSED!

During Covid, being back at home gave me the space to throw myself into creating, and I’ve been at it ever since - still at home, still creating, and still inspired every single day.

Through ShellNova, I hope to share a bit of joy, spark curiosity, and remind people of the beauty that’s all around us - whether it’s out in the universe or right under our feet.

Living Life on Purpose, with Soul and with Love.

Take me to Mini Flute Studios!

Big shout out to my incredibly talented brother for bringing my logo to life with this stunning animation! Inspired by Starry Night, my logo emerges beautifully within the cosmos - capturing the magic of art and the universe all at once.

Sharing the Magic through Stalls!

Sharing my artwork in person has become one of my greatest joys. Setting up my art stalls, meeting amazing creatives, and feeling the kindness of the people who stop by truly inspires me. It’s something I’m excited to pour even more energy into in 2026.

Keep an eye on my website for announcements about upcoming stalls and events near you - I’d love to meet you there! Christmas has me feeling even more inspired for what’s ahead. ✨🎨
